Keeping international families connected, with less friction

For IDT Corporation, we made focused UX improvements to messaging, calling, top-ups and transfers in an app used by 1.5 million people a month, and designed its new web portal.

The challenge

BOSS Revolution is how 1.5 million people a month message, call, send money and top up phones across borders. Changes had to be surgical.

Legacy components and strict compliance rules meant every update had to be precise. Each transaction needed to stay clear and trustworthy for people of varying technical comfort, across languages and cultures, and with region-specific options such as cash pickup and home delivery.

Our role

We worked with IDT’s product, engineering and compliance teams on two fronts.

  • UX iteration on the iOS and Android apps
  • A new web portal for top-ups and account management
  • Prototyping, usability testing and A/B tests
  • Development-ready handoff in Figma and Zeplin

The web portal

The in-app experience, for people who’d rather not install the app.

The portal had to feel native to the existing brand and be built on Tailwind CSS. The hard part was keeping desktop from feeling clunky while staying familiar and on-brand.

Approach

Bring developers in early, and let every round of feedback sharpen the screens.

  1. 01

    Wireframes

Mobile and desktop versions, focused on usability within the established layout.

  2. 02

    Feedback

Stakeholder and developer input led to refined screens and prototypes.

  3. 03

    Engineering

Close collaboration kept designs easy to build and aligned with the brand.

  4. 04

    Test and hand off

Several rounds of iteration and A/B tests, then development-ready Figma flows with Zeplin.

The result

Focused improvements where they mattered, not a redesign for its own sake.

Working through legacy flows, platform differences and international regulations made the app easier to use and more consistent. The web portal launched in stages after priorities shifted mid-project. It met its immediate goals, and refinements are ongoing.
