A simpler way to send money home
For IDT Corporation, we redesigned BOSS Money, an international money transfer app, and built its design system from scratch. Its Google Play rating went from 3.9 to 4.9 in a year.
Key impact
- 3.9 → 4.9
- Google Play rating in the year after the redesign
- 12%
- churn reduction from a simpler ordering flow and gentle prompts at exit
The challenge
BOSS Money sends money worldwide through cash pickup, mobile wallets, bank transfers and home delivery. It started with two of those, and the original design struggled to carry everything added since.
IDT was moving the app to a single Flutter codebase, shared with its sister app BOSS Revolution. Stakeholders used the move to push for a significant redesign: simpler transfers, without losing the core features customers rely on.
Our role
We took the product from concept to implementation, working with IDT’s product, front-end and compliance teams.
- Research with product data and competitors
- End-to-end redesign of the transfer experience
- A new design system shared across BOSS apps
- Prototyping and usability testing
Approach
Find where people got stuck, then fix that first.
- 01
Read the data
Amplitude showed which features people used most and where they stalled, so we knew where to focus.
- 02
Look wider
Studying competitors in fintech and beyond pointed to the opportunity: a smoother experience that keeps the features users expect.
- 03
Build the system
With the front-end team, we based a new design system on Material Design. It suits Flutter and sped up development.
- 04
Iterate on evidence
Miro for journeys and API mapping, Amplitude for real behaviour, before every design decision.
Design system
Built from scratch, shared across both BOSS apps.
The old app had no formal system, which made consistency hard. The new one gives BOSS Money and BOSS Revolution the same foundations, so both teams can ship modular features faster.
What’s next
Early concepts for pushing the app further.
We explored a universal amount entry that handles tax, fee and legal scenarios across services, and a path toward a worldwide peer-to-peer wallet.
The result
Mixed at first, then clearly a success.
Customers were used to the old version, so early reactions were mixed. Over the following year the rating climbed from 3.9 to 4.9, and transactions grew significantly, which increased revenue.
